RoadSense Day

Luckily the weather was good to us today and we were able to walk down to the Lagoon as part of BikeWise and RoadSense Week.
Great fun was had by all.
I was particularly impressed with the way the big
Whanau buddies looked after their little buddy.

Thanks to all the parents who walked with us  and joined us for lunch.

Maths

We have been learning numbers before and after up to 10.

Our first Inquiry Unit for 2012 is 'A Bird's- Eye View'

We are inquiring into 'All living things have certain requirements so they can stay alive'.
WE NEED TO CARE FOR OUR NATIVE BIRDS.

The big word we are learning is Sustainability.

When we started we got into our Buzz Groups. We brainstormed our first ideas about birds. Then we did some reading and watched a D.V.D.

The next step is to create some questions to further our Inquiry.

This week's question was ' What do birds look like?

This is what we found out.......

School Assembly

Today we had our first school assembly for 2012. Classes take turns at presenting items.
At today's assembly classes from Rimu and Totara Block shared some of their work.
Mrs Gunson's class showed us their awesome self portraits.

For some of us this was our very first school assembly. At our first assembly our Whanau buddy introduces us to the rest of the school and Mr Smith our Principal presents us with a
'Welcome to School" certificate.

Congratulations to Emma and Harrison who received certificates for demonstrating friendship.

Friday 2 March 2012

We were very excited when the Life Education Caravan arrived at our school on Friday.

We went to the caravan classroom to meet Harold the Giraffe and learn all about how AMAZING we are!
Jane the teacher helped us all learn about the things our body needs to stay happy and healthy.

We need lots of things to stay healthy.
We need   water, oxygen, sleep, food, exercise,  shelter and love.
Can you think of other things?

Harold says:       I am a very important person
                                                      There's nobody like me
                                                       I'm wonderful and amazing
